About

Name/nickname: Jelena/Nessa

Pronouns: she/her

Education: MA in History and English Language and Literature from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split, Croatia.

I am an avid reader and dedicated reviewer who mainly reads (and reviews) all kinds of speculative fiction. I also love reading short stories, mythologies and folklore, historical fiction, middle-grade books, crime, mysteries and thrillers. Additionally, I enjoy reading academic history books and history books aimed at the general public. However, because of their complexity and subject matter, those kinds of books require more time and focus so those types of reviews won’t be as prominent on the blog as reviews of fiction books.

The majority of my reviews are written in English, however, I’m not a native English speaker – English is my 2nd language, the 1st being Croatian. At times, if I read a book in my native language, I might write a review in Croatian. All of my previous reviews can be found on my Goodreads/StoryGraph profile and some of them are crossposted on my Instagram profile. All of my relevant contact information is linked under “Places to find me”.

What type of content can you expect to find on this blog? Mainly longer essay-like book reviews (in English and Croatian) that will focus on the review part, rather than the star rating. So if you prefer dynamic TikTok/BookTok-type reviews, my blog might not be what you’re looking for. Additionally, there might be some musings about what I’m planning to read (and review) and a list of the best reads in a given time period (quarterly or yearly). If this sounds appealing to you, stick around so we can have all the bookish chats in the comment section.
